Notice of Privacy Practices for Facebook Lead Ads

University of Maryland (“UMD”) and the Learning to Talk Lab (“L2T Lab”) understand that the privacy and confidentiality of your information matters. Protecting your privacy is a serious matter to us. Please read the following to learn more about how we treat your information collected from Facebook as part of the L2T Lab’s research program. The L2T Lab is a research laboratory at UMD. By providing information to the L2T Lab, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined in this Notice of Privacy Practices (“Privacy Policy”).

Privacy Policy Coverage/Applicability

This Privacy Policy covers our treatment of personal information that we gather when adults or interested parents (“you”) complete our Lead Ad on Facebook.

Information the L2T Lab Collects

We collect the name and phone number you authorize Facebook to share with UMD. We only collect information you provide voluntarily. We do not have any control over how Facebook processes your information, or if it collects additional information from you. You should review Facebook’s privacy policy closely.

How the L2T Lab Uses Your Information

We only use your data in order to recruit you to participate in our research, and in particular, to let you know about research studies taking place at the L2T Lab.

Information the L2T Lab Shares with Third Parties

We will not share your identifiable data with any organization outside of UMD without your consent, except that we may disclose your information if we determine such disclosure is required by law, for example to comply with a court order, subpoena, or search warrant. The L2T Lab will never sell, rent or lease your information. We have no control over whether or how Facebook shares your information. You should review Facebook’s privacy policy closely.

How the L2T Lab Protects Your Personal Information

  • Storing information we collect on computer systems located in controlled facilities with limited access;
  • Using a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosures;
  • Limiting data access to only authorized personnel with a need to perform a specific job; and
  • Training all L2T Lab employees on our security and privacy practices.

We aim to protect the privacy of the personal information we hold in our records, but we cannot guarantee complete security. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of your personal information. We will notify you of any security incidents that compromise the security, confidentiality or integrity of your personal information in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.

Knowing Your Choices

You may choose not to participate in studies with the L2T Lab. By providing personal information to the L2T Lab, you are giving the L2T Lab permission to contact you regarding future programs and services, but you are not committing to participation in these. Notifications about additional programs and services will provide the opportunity to “opt-out” of future notifications. If you would no longer like to receive this information, you can “opt-out” by contacting us at the e-mail address or the phone number indicated at the end of this policy.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy will be updated periodically to reflect any material changes in our programs and practices. These changes will be evident by inserting a new “Effective Date” (see below) and are effective when they are posted to our website at: babylab.princeton.edu. Treatment of information we collect now is subject to the version of the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used.
